Solar Pool Heaters

Solar pool heaters have low annual operating costs and consist of a four-step process is:
 
*Solar collector – pool water is circulated, to be heated by the sun
 
*Filter – removes debris before is pumped through the collector
 
*Pump-circulates water through the filter, collector, and back to the pool

*Flow control valve-automatic or manual device that diverts pool water through the solar collector.

In hot climates, the collector of the solar pool heaters can be used to cool the pool during the peak summer months by reversing the circulation process, doing it at night instead of day time usage.  Some of the solar systems include sensors and an automatic valve to divert water through the solar collector.  When the temperature in the collector is greater than the pool temperature, filtered water bypasses the collector and is returned to the pool. The solar pool heaters are an answer to the global energy crunch going on today, saving not only money but also energy.  With global warming the main topic being discussed today, most people are attempting to conserve as much as possible.  This makes solar energy swimming pool heaters the most popular way to go anymore. There are many options open but it offers more “dollar for dollar” than any other swimming pool heaters available, and solar pool heating is the largest use of solar energy in the world at 90%.  Most pool owners want an energy efficient pool because it reduces energy costs and will increase comfort.  Over 300,000 pool owners use solar pool heaters as their swimming pool heaters, with this number increasing continuously.

In a study by the RSPEC-Reduce Swimming Pool Energy Costs, an initiative of the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s Institutional Conservation Program (ICP) Program in the Denver Regional Office - it was found that pool owners have saved $785,000 and 155 trillion BTUS after only one year of the program using solar pool heaters. The pool industry has generated probably over $1 million in sales due to the program.  The goal of the program was to assist pool owners and operators in reducing their pool energy costs.

In addition to solar pool heaters, there are two other types of pool heaters: gas and heat pump. The solar pool heaters are the most cost-effective use of solar energy in most of the world, even though it is not as well known as solar energy.  Other than the state of Alaska, all the states in our country utilize solar pool heaters.
