There are three different types of pool filters for a swimming pool: sand, cartridge, and diatomaceous earth filter systems. These filters can maintain any pool there is. And a filtering system is very important for keeping the pool cleaning and fresh, so picking a pool filter out is important for the for the duration of the pool.
When using the sand pool filters, water will be pushed through a bed of filter sand, and then removed through a set of lateral tubs at the bottom. The sand is easily and inexpensively replaced, but is the least effective method used as it lets smaller particles of sand back into the pool. Also, only the top 1" of sand is actually used to filter the water. Cleaning sand pool filters out is necessary about once every two weeks as the sand gets dirty. Cartridge pool filters are the economic low maintenance filter and the most easily understood. Its process is like the water filters we have under the sinks in our kitchen. Plus the cartridges have a larger area to filter than the sand does. The majority of them start at 100 sq.ft., with the majority of cartridge filters are larger than 300 sq.ft. This helps prevent the clogging action requiring less intervention. Cartridge filters come in two different types: the first type the pool filters are inexpensive to replace but don’t last too long; and the other pool filters type is more expensive but last five years or more. Pool filters and the DE (diatomaceous) water polisher is unique. Due to the tiny fossilized exoskeletons of tiny diatoms, it can filter out particles as small as 5 microns. The filter area is sized between the sand and the cartridge. Once the filter pressure rises, the filter is backwashed like the sand filter but then it is “recharged” through a special process, and then coating it with filter grids. It runs at higher pressures than the cartridge filters, which can lead to flow loss and possibly some inefficiency. When we ask ourselves, “which of the pool filters are best,” we need to define what we want for our pool. Bulletproof with sand is good, but every couple of weeks will require a thorough cleaning process. If you want something that is low maintenance, then choose the cartridge filter system. But if you want the cleanest water available, then the DE pool filters would be best. They all work and they all work well, it is a matter of choice. And you can mix and match them - by adding a little of the DE product to the sand or cartridge filter, it will filter the smaller particles a whole lot better. And fouled cartridges can be replaced. So the pool filters that work best for you are based on your choices. |
