Pool Equipment for the Residential Swimming Pool

Pool equipment is something the pool owner will need to factor into the decision of whether to get a pool or not. Of course residential swimming pools are a great addition to any home. Not only do they increase the “fun” factor for the family but they are great selling point when if your house every goes on the market. Residential swimming pool costs are determined by a number of factors including pool size, installation, pool materials, design, location, and of course the associated pool equipment.

The most important question when choosing a residential pool is whether the pool will be in ground or above ground. An in ground pool can be fairly pricey but well worth the expense. Concrete residential pools cost between $17k and $45k, fiberglass between $15k and $25k, and vinyl which can run between $7k and $16k. Above ground pools cost between $1500 and $5. When buying budgeting for a pool do not forget to budget for all the pool equipment including pump, filter, and ladders.

Concrete in ground residential swimming pools are most popular because it offers variety in pool design. The construction of a concrete in ground pool is fairly involved. A hole is dug, and a grid of rebar is placed along the floor and walls of the residential pool. Then the plumbing and electrical outlets are put in. All electric wiring must be grounded and placed away from the pool water. At this point a concrete gun is brought in and copings are installed. The concrete must sit for a week to make it harder fully. Then the pool surface must be finished usually in plaster. A this point the pool equipment can be fitted and placed in position.

Ceramic tile is often used to stylize pools walls and floors but it is only for appearances. The pool is then filled and is ready for use. Before anyone hops in the pool make sure all your pool equipment is functioning properly. In ground pools need less daily maintenance then above ground residential swimming pools. Pools are a great investment in fun and can also increase the selling price of your house. The benefits far out way the work needed to maintain a pool.

However, above ground residential pools are inexpensive, portable, and offer several choice in pool equipment. Additionally above ground pools can be quickly installed with very little technical skill. Remember the costs above are only estimate. If you are interested in residential pools visit and talk with local contractors to get solid estimates. Neighbors and friends with pools are also good places to seek advice. Waiting for the end of season sales at local pool retailers is a great way to save money. Pool installation and the purchasing of pool equipment in the fall and spring months cost less then in prime swimming season.
