If you have ever watched a bunch of kids or even teenagers playing pool games, you know that there is a lot more to the experience of having a pool than just relaxing, or even exercise. There are a lot of pool games that can be played, and they are sometimes the results of innovative imagination and sometimes developed by manufacturers for the purpose of supplying you with something fun to do in your pool.
The old pool stalwart, of course, requires no special equipment beyond the voice. Marco Polo is one of the most popular pool games that can be played with multiple participants, and offers for some ingenious getaways and quick action. It is essentially tag in the pool, but with the twist that the person who is “it” must close their eyes. The person who is It says “Marco” and the other participants echo “Polo”- in this way, the person who is It tries to track a victim down and tag them, making them It. Only one person is allowed out of the pool at a time, and if the person who is It yells “Fish out of Water” before the person out of the pool is at least airborne, he or she is automatically It. One company that specializes in developing pool games is Aquatoy. Most of Aquatoy’s pool games consist of products that are aquatic versions of land based toys and games such as golf and Frisbee. Aquatoy’s latest innovation is the Aquadisc, which is the underwater equivalent of the Frisbee. These discs have been developed in three lines, including the standard, glowing, and fling models. The glow version is iridescent for nighttime use, while the fling model is intended for younger swimmers as it is designed to float. Aquatoy’s line of toys also includes Skimmer golf and hoops. Each is designed to be used with the Aquaskimmer in an adaptation of a land game. Golf allows the participants to set up goals that float on the surface of the water, while hoops has participants shooting the skimmers into nets, basketball style. The Hoop is specially designed for underwater play, and presents a very challenging mode of play when employed in this manner. Despite innovations in plastic toys and rules that have standard, well known rules, part of the fun of playing in the pool will always be the homegrown pool games. These pool games often have no fixed rules, and will be played with many different types of object, with ever varying purposes. From water fights to chicken fights, dunkings to variations of polo, the most popular types of pool games will always be those developed among a group of friends who want to find something else to do in the pool.
