Leaks are one of the most common swimming pool problems. Most pools owners do not even realize their pools are leaking until well after there is a huge problem. Even if you know you have a leak it is extremely hard to track down that leak. However, once you do, it is quick easy to plug it up and get up with the swimming seasons. In surveying your potential swimming pool problems you can determine if you really have a link or not.
There are three reasons that there is water loss from pools. The first is when the swimming pool plumbing is leaking. The second is swimming pool shell leaks and the third is that there is normal evaporation in combination with excessive splashing. Remember the sun evaporates the water constantly, and in higher temperature water can disappear fairly quickly without anyone noticing until levels are so low that it seems like there is leak. There is an easy way to determined if water loss is actually evaporation. This is done by filling container full of water and put it on the first step of your ladder in the pool. Then remove water from the container until the pool water matches the level of water in the jar. Now just be patient and wait! For the next couple of days monitor the water in the jar. In a couple of days check the water level of the pool and the jar. If they have each decreased the same amount, then water loss is because of evaporation. If the jar water has stayed the same and pool water has dropped then water loss is not from evaporation. This means it is time to find your leak. Swimming pool problems should not be ignored they will only continue to get worse and will become severe if you are heading into the winter months due to the frigid weather. To find a leak first look at your pump and filter. Often the connection between the pool and pump or the pump and the filter is loose and leaking. Do you notice any water spots or damp areas? If there are, play detective, and follow the water to it's source. It may be that the plumbing pipes are not secured. You can also run the pump and simply observed if it is indeed leaking. If and when the leak begins to show you can easily repair these common swimming pool problems by buying new pipes or tightening them up. If you do not feel comfortable with plumbing repair call a professional. f there are no leaks from the plumbing the problem is probably in the shell of the pool. This, of course, is one of the more expensive swimming pool problems. |
