Swimming Pool Cleaners: Chemical Based Cleaning

Swimming Pool Cleaners: Maintaining a good chemical balance in your pool is a necessity for keeping your swimming pool in good working order and in ensuring that you enjoy a healthy swimming experience. Chemical swimming pool cleaners are essential in the process, and there are several varieties and methods to use when you open your pool for the season and throughout.

Swimming Pool Cleaners and Chlorine: The first chemical that will spring to mind when considering swimming pool cleaners is, of course, chlorine. There are two types of chlorine that pool owners generally use, granular chlorine and chlorine pucks.

Chlorine levels need to be checked at least every two days in a pool, and the amount of chlorine used will depend on the size of the pool. A standard 20 x 40 pool owner can expect to spend about $300 each year in chemicals to keep the pool safe and clean. The best way to keep your chlorine levels up is to use slow dissolving chlorine tablets that are placed in the pool by the skimmers every day, depending on their usage. Automatic chlorinators are also convenient pool supplies, as they come with a dial which allows the owner to determine the usage of chlorine per day. The dial also gives a reading on the amount of chlorine used, and the dial will usually have setting ranging from one to nine.

Swimming Pool Cleaners and Dispensers: Some pool owners use a floating chlorine dispenser. This device also uses chlorine pucks and has settings, but it is better suited for smaller pools or hot tubs than large outdoor pools. The last way in which a pool owner can add chlorine, and the least efficient, is to add granular chlorine to the pool skimmer every day. If this is the method you choose, it is important to remember that it needs to be done every day or else you could see rapid algae growth which will signal a very unhealthy swimming environment.

Granular chlorine is best used as the means of shocking your pool. Shocking should be done every two weeks to kill any bacteria that have accumulated. Scatter the chlorine over the pools surface, and run the pump continuously to rid your lines of bacteria as well. After some hours have passed, use your pool vacuum (another in the list of essential swimming pool supplies) to vacuum the dead organisms off the bottom of the pool.

You will also want to include a pH test in your purchases of swimming pool cleaners and supplies. PH tests generally come with a small water holder, and some colored water which reacts with the chemical in the pool to let you know what needs to be added to maintain the proper balance. Among your pool cleaning chemicals that are used as swimming pool supplies, be sure to include the easily named “pH up” or “pH down”, which will assist you in keeping the alkalinity of your swimming pool cleaners at a safe and healthy level.
