A pool fence is one of the major safety measures to prevent young children under the age of five from entering the pool area. If at all possible, it is a good idea to wait until the children are over the age of five before having a pool built at the home, but that is a personal choice. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission there are an estimated 350 children die from drowning each year in residential pools under the age of five, with another 2,600 treated in the emergency rooms for submersion incidents; many resulting in permanent brain damage. Pool fences are just one of the safety preventions of these tragedies for young children and even infants. |
