Swimming Pool Lighting: Enjoy Nighttime Entertainment

With swimming pool lighting, you get two benefits – the ability to swim at night so you can see where you are going and to create ambience. Although most pools have swimming pool lighting, not all do. Years ago, the only option was a clear light that illuminated much of the entire pool. This type of lighting is still available and comes in handy if you have kids who enjoy playing games in the water after dark.

However, in addition to swimming pool lighting from yesteryear, you will find a wonderful new array of choices. Keep in mind that swimming pool lighting can be used with both in-ground and above ground pools although the design would be much different. Typically, lights for in-ground pools are installed from the very beginning. If not, the pool would have to be drained so the professional can get to the area where the lighting would be installed.

One of the most common types of swimming pool lighting for an in-ground pool is the underwater system, which is designed with a stainless steel shell. With this, the lighting system features a prismatic tempered glass lens, which then sets flat into the end or side of the pool to create bright illumination. Another option is an underwater light that uses high performance halogen bulbs, also surrounded by a stainless steel shell and face ring.

As mentioned, swimming pool lighting has come a long way. Today, you can also add color with interchangeable lights. Simply choose from red, blue, green, or yellow, although other colors are probably available, and the pool takes on an entirely new appearance. Just imagine having a heated swimming pool and choosing the red lights for a Valentine’s party. With colored swimming pool lighting, the possibilities are endless, whether using colors for special occasions or just for fun.

You could also choose a compact wet niche mounted, quartz halogen lighting system, which works exceptionally well for pools that have a low-level cut off device, as a means for protecting the unit from overheating during periods of low water. These lights are great for warm weather locations where evaporation can be a challenge. In addition, if you were to leave on vacation and the water level were to go down, the lighting system would automatically shut down. As you can see, the options for swimming pool lighting are much different today, giving everyone a chance to enjoy the pool regardless of time of year.
